From My Journal

 TODAY IS: 27 January 2025

AROUND ME:  We had a couple of days in the 30s over the weekend, so a fair amount of snow has melted.  It's been good to see bare spots here and there, but we are supposed to get another snow starting Wednesday morning, lasting through Wednesday evening.  At the present, it's only supposed to be a couple of inches.

I AM PONDERING: the mercy of God and how He takes care of us...how it rains on the just and the unjust.

AMONG MY FAVORITE THINGS

BOOKS I AM CURRENTLY ENJOYINGThe Violent Take it by Force by Matthew D. Taylor

I AM THANKFUL FOR: shelves in the basement that are lined with canned goods from our garden, my husband, my Redeemer and King, my copy of God's Word, our children and their spouses, our grandchildren, and good friends.

NEVER TOO OLD TO LEARN: how essential a teachable spirit is.

  2. Your chowder looks delicious. I love that Spurgeon quote!
We're supposed to get snow again tonight, but hopefully not too much. I'm off to run errands today and then can just be home tomorrow. :)

    1. Thank you. It's one of Carroll's favorites.
Susannah Spurgeon was quite a lady and one of my favorite books of all time is one that she wrote. I liked the Spurgeon quote because it seems today that such things as he mentioned are looked down upon. If people only understood the value of mothering well, what a different world we would live in.

  3. This post was like a balm to my heart. I fervently believe the Spurgeon quote! Absolutely, positively, homemaking is God's work and we who are able to do it "full time" are truly blessed. That bunny and teacup picture just gave me a thrill of delight! Your soup looks so good. I see ham chunks in there, I think! I call my corn chowder "potato corn chowder" and when feeling frisky I have added chicken, but I think that next time I make it, I'll throw some ham in! Can't go wrong with that. I love the scripture from II Timothy. Truth makes us free! Have a lovely week, Dianna. xoxo

    1. Awww...thank you, Jenny. I'm glad it was an encouragement to you. And you are right...there are chunks of ham in the corn chowder...and it does also have potatoes in it. I have another recipe for corn chowder that we like, too, and it has salmon in it. YUM! Yes, The Truth does set us free! Amen. xx

  5. Your corn chowder is calling to me. It's always a treat to read a Spurgeon quote. That 2nd Timothy verse makes me consider how the more we are in God's Word the more sound our minds will be. Have a good week, Dianna.

    1. If we lived closer, I'd be sure to invite you over the next time I make the corn chowder. :) You are so right, Ellen, the more we are in God's Word, the more sound our minds will be. Hope you are doing well.

  6. I think I may have accidentally sent an unfinished comment. :) I love that quote from Spurgeon about a mother's ministry.

This is a good time of year for soups. We had chicken and rice soup one day and kielbasa potato stew another.

I've heard about that book. I'll be interested to see your thoughts on it.

    1. Thanks, Barbara. I took care of it. :)

We've certainly eaten our share of soups these last few weeks! :) Now we are trying for some other things since the temperatures have warmed up a bit. Your kielbasa potato stew sounds delicious!

Carroll and I are learning a great deal from the book. I will do a review of sorts at some point in the next few weeks. It's a lot to absorb., but definitely worth the read.

  7. I haven't had corn chowder in a very long time and yours looks nice and delicious. Usually we have fish chowder and I think corn will be next. :) Enjoy your week.

    1. Thank you, Bill. Have you ever had a corn chowder that includes fish? I made one over a different recipe a while back that included salmon. It's a really good recipe!

    1. Ours is only melting where the sun is hitting and where Carroll has spread ashes.

Thank you for the kind words about the chowder.
