From My Journal

 TODAY IS: 17 February 2025

AROUND ME:  We woke up Sunday morning to a temperature of 52 degrees F and rain.   On our way home from church, the temperature had already begun to drop, and wind continued to bring the temperature down.  Shortly after 1:30 it began to snow, and it has been a mixture of rain, ice and snow with LOTS of wind.  This type of weather is to continue through midafternoon today.

I AM PONDERING: a book I read recently and the social issues that it dealt with.

  1. We're getting cold weather here too. Stay warm.
I love old pottery too. I have a pitcher that I won an auction for off eBay and it has pride of place.
Lots of jam there! There will be some very blessed recipients.
    Have a good week.

    1. We are gearing up for more another winter storm either Tuesday or Wednesday...they keep changing the days.

Believe it or not, this jam that is pictured is actually for us! :) I'm working at replenishing our supply, while making room in the freezer to put some fresh berries this summer.

  2. It's gotten cold here and is supposed to get colder, below ten degrees as highs this week. :(
I am a fan of pottery too, especially old pieces.
I really like your quote and scripture for the week.

    1. Oh, my goodness...ten degrees as high is COLD. Ours are to be in the 20s and 30s. Tonight, it's supposed to get down to 8 degrees.

There's just something about old things in general that I love, but especially old pottery.

Glad the quote and Scripture for the week were blessings to you, my friend. xx

    1. Hello, Dear One! It's so good to have you back and visiting. I was beginning to be concerned that Linda had worn you to more than a frazzle. ;)

    1. It really is, Karen. I've also noticed that I sleep better at night when I have had a good laugh. Even though our temps are supposed to be colder, at least they aren't forecasting any sub-zero temps this time around. :)

  6. I loved that photo of grandma's hands. Precious. I have held quite a few such hands in my life and they are among some of my most treasured memories. The book you are reading sounds so interesting. That is a regular prayer of mine...Lord, don't let me waste today (because I don't want to waste my life). I hope you will let us know what you think once you finish. I hope the winds have died down and there is some sunshine out this morning! Happy Monday to you!

    1. Jennifer, I grew up in a multi-generational household, so I grew up around my paternal grandparents. My grandmother lived to be just four months shy of 100 and was so precious to me. Folks often tell me that I am a lot like her.

The book is interesting. And, yes, I will do a review on it at some point. After reading a couple of chapters in the book, I ordered the study guide that goes with it. So, I will wait until I've finished both the book and the study guide and then do the review.

It was still kind of windy this morning early, but it's been rather peaceful since. Saturday and Sunday were a different story where the wind is concerned though!

  7. Lots of good photos, memes, and quotes today! Someone I know used to send weekly funny things as "ivman,' "iv" meaning "instant vacation." He had quite an extensive email list at one time as people forwarded his messages. He's not sending them any more, but I kept several for when I used to do a ladies' newsletter for church. I always tucked a few "funnies" in it.

Corrie's quote is good but heard to implement. Everything in this life is God's gift to enjoy, but temporary--only our souls and relationships can be taken with us into heaven.

    1. Thanks for your kind words, Barbara.

The quote of Corrie's is one of my favorite quotes. It has special meaning for me, as I interpret the word "things" to be more than just the material things that God blesses us with. I include relationships in that sphere, also. I've suffered heartache a few times in my life because I've held some relationships too tightly.

  8. Everything to LOVE about this post Dianna... I have a collection of old pottery pieces and am always in search for more. Things of old just make my heart happy...Just like the picture of the lady with her aged and wrinkled folded hands..What a precious honor it is to take care of the elderly. This picture so reminded me of my grandmother that we called Ma Bertha! How true it is that Laughter is like an instant vacation and how nice that we can all have a vacation like this everyday. You are awesome and I love all of your positivity...Have a great one..

    1. Shug, thank you for your kind words. I have several pieces of old pottery and already have them marked for them to become a part of our kids' lives one day. I lived in the same house as my paternal grandparents. My grandfather was fairly young when he died from a massive heart attack, but my grandmother lived to be just four months shy of 100. She was so precious to me.

I hope you are feeling better today. I've prayed for you when I've thought of you today. xx

  9. My first thought about the "old hands", they reminded me of my grandmother on my dad's side. When I was born she was already in her 80s. I've always remember seeing her old wrinkled hands and it brings a smile to my face. Thanks for the memory.

    1. You are welcome, Bill. I was so blessed to grow up in the same household with my dad's parents. We lived on a dairy farm. My grandma's favorite thing was to work in her big garden every summer, canning the produce from it and working in her large flower garden. She lived to be just 4 months shy of 100 and she was still working in her flower garden in her early 90s.

  10. All the way to 52 and then a drop in temps and snow. What a weird mix. We are warming up here, too, with the most snow we've had so far this winter. Not anywhere near amounts from past years but Addy and JJ could finally sled down their driveway. Great quotes. Happy week to you!

    1. Yes, Ellen, we seem to be accumulating a lot of different mixtures of weather this winter. I live in the next county over from Happy K of the Life is Good blog, but she normally has more extreme weather than we do because of elevation. I've actually been surprised at how little snow you all have had there in Washington state. Glad that JJ and Addy were able to do some sledding down their driveway.

    1. Thanks, Karen.
I agree...a tease indeed! :) I'm guessing that there were a lot of drifts over your way with all of the high winds we had.
