Things Memories are Made Of

I was viewing pictures on Pinterest recently and found something that brought back so many childhood memories.  I thought I would share them with you to see if maybe they bring back memories for you as well.

When I was a little girl living on a dairy farm, each morning after my grandfather and father would finish the morning milking and we'd had breakfast together, Grandpap and I would go into the living room to his favorite rocker.  I would sit on his lap, and he would read my little Golden Books to me.  Many of those books were illustrated by Eloise Wilkins.  Here are a few of the pictures of hers that I found on Pinterest.

  1. I fondly remember reading those Little Golden Books when I was a child. The Saggy Baggy Elephant....A Child's Garden of Verses. . . there were so many.

    1. He was one in a million. I now look back at how he was crippled up with rheumatism, walked with a cane (which I have) and yet without fail he willingly had me set on his lap every morning so he could read to me, and I realize how that must have hurt his legs.

    1. That's great that you have some of the golden books for your grands, Jan. I saved many of mine and passed them on to our children, who used them with their children.

  7. Love all these old illustrations. I loved the Golden books and had many as a child. I would have loved to save them but my mom gave them all away!! :(. I do have some now that I've collected over the years.
I've put The Forgotten Garden on hold at the library.

    1. Eloise Wilkin was my favorite illustrator for these Golden Books. I'm sorry that your Golden Books were given away. :( That same thing happened with my Audobon Books.

Yay for having The Forgotten Garden on hold! I know you will enjoy it.
