TODAY IS June 30, 2025
AROUND ME we have just come through a heat wave, like the majority of the country. Our highest temperature I believe was 95...and I didn't look to see what the "real feel" was because, truthfully, I didn't want to know. But God then blessed us with a nice gentle rain of 3/10ths of an inch of rain on Friday evening and a "shower" on Saturday early evening. I've been singing Psalm 118:24 a lot.
I AM PONDERING resilience and gratitude and how the two go hand in hand. I'm also pondering how important our attitude is when He's building that resilience in us. Strongheart and I have two dear friends who have had MAJOR reasons to just give up and throw in the towel. Instead, they stood fast on the fact that God is Sovereign, that none of what they were going through was going unseen by Him and have continued to be steadfast in their testimonies for Him. I know that's because they each depend on Him for their strength and trust. Their faithfulness to Him in these trials has helped to keep my eyes turned upon Him as I've gone through this past month.
AMONG MY FAVORITE THINGS is bringing joy to others. One of Strongheart's sisters had a birthday last week and we've made it a tradition over the last several years to make sure that we make that trip of just a couple of hours to her home on that day to spend time with her. She has some health issues, and we just want to bring her a little joy when we can.
BOOKS I AM CURRENTLY READING The Yearling by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. I've not gotten very far in it but have enjoyed it so far. I finished A Vision for Missions by Tom Wells last week and there will be a review coming at some point. All I can say is, if you can find a copy of it make sure you read it. SUCH a good book!
I AM THANKFUL FOR our church family. We had a special day yesterday to honor our pastor and his wife. The fellowship is always so sweet, and we consider it a privilege to be able to honor them because of how they love the Lord and not only teach us verbally, but especially by the way they live out their love for Jesus.
NEVER TOO OLD TO LEARN what a precious gift God gave me when He gave me my husband 53 years ago. The day I married him I thought I couldn't love him anymore and yet I find that with each passing day there's something new to learn about him and love him more for.
FROM THE KITCHEN
SOMETHING I REALLY ENJOY
TO DO LIST FOR TODAY two loads of laundry, prepare jars for jam making, clean the bedroom and tidy up the kitchen.
"So teach us to number our days,
so that we may present to You a heart of wisdom"
Psalm 90:12

I'm not feeling very resilient today, but hopefully when I start feeling better I will!! I love making people happy as well. It spreads such good feelings.
ReplyDeleteI understand about not feeling very resilient because of not feeling well. Praying for you, my friend. xx
DeleteWhat a nice week! I'm glad you got to visit your husband's sister. I like the quote and Scripture memes. That copper cup will look really nice with fall flowers and leaves.
ReplyDeleteI am glad we were able to make the visit, too, Barbara. It's always a blessing. The quote for the week was definitely posted with myself in mind because, well, because I need to be reminded of it. :)
DeleteYour weather sounds much like my own. Cooling off today. Your soup looks super yummy Dianna! Maybe a recipe you might share? :)
ReplyDeleteWe are currently having a thunderstorm as I type. I love a good summer thunderstorm. Only lately, it hasn't been cooling things off...just more humid! Yes, I will share the soup recipe, if you wish. :)
DeleteIt's been so hot here too and continues today, but is supposed to break tomorrow. I've just come home and had to drive through some pouring rain, but here there hasn't been a drop. So we're praying for a little rain.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got to do the trip to see Stronghearts sister, and that shopping trip with your friend. I really like the copper mug!
You are so right in the blessing God gave us with our husbands. I'm more thankful for that all the time.
If we could just have less humidity, I would be happy. :) I hope you will get your rain soon.
DeleteThanks...I like the copper mug, too. My next "copper" adventure is going to be cleaning up a small round hanging planter that was my grandmother's and planting something in the kitchen window.
We'd be in sad shape without our husbands, would we not? xx
It's so good to be intentional with those birthday visits to Strongheart's sister. I love soup all year long and it's a joke around here that somehow I manage to make soup on the hottest day of the year! :) May God continue to give you joy and gratefulness along with your resilience. Happy last day of June!
ReplyDeleteI know, Ellen. Praying that we get to see her again before her next birthday. I had to chuckle about the joke around your house that you make soup on the hottest day of the year. That's the way it was here the day I made that soup! lol I hope that your last day of June was a pleasant one.
DeleteOh! The soup looks delicious. And we also enjoy soup in any weather!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Friend. I will either publish the recipe or the link at some point in the near future.
DeleteThat's a such a sweet copper cup! I can see pretty flowers tucked into that. I'm partial to daisies and they would look so nice in something like that.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you were able to visit family this weekend. I know your visit was a blessing to Strongheart's sister.
I too am so thankful for my church and church family. We had our annual All American BBQ after service this past Sunday. A gymnasium-size room full of all of us! It was wonderful.
I do have faux daisies in the hutch right now...but I have them in a sweet little basket that I got at an antique store in Maine a few years ago. So, this copper cup will probably be put away until I decorate for fall.
DeleteGlad that you had a good time of fellowship at your BBQ at church yesterday.
It got a lot hotter by you than here.
ReplyDeleteI'm thankful for our church family too.
I keep telling Carroll that we need to move to the Oakland/Accident area so we can beat the heat...but he isn't buying it. lol
DeleteIt's wonderful when we can be thankful for our church family. Not everyone can say that. Have a great evening, Karen.
I like the illustration and the verse from Ephesians. Your copper mug is sweet and will be perfect filled with leaves or flowers...real or fake.
ReplyDeleteIt's hot here too but I think not as hot as your area. In this heat I baked...I don't think the kitchen would have been any any cooler if I hadn't and now we have fresh cheese buns for our BBQ tomorrow.
Yes, that little girl is sweet in the last picture. Our high today was 89F, but I baked pizza for supper tonight. 🤩 Tomorrow starts my jam making.
DeleteOh yes....our lovely weather is much like yours. upper 90's expected today. A few of my friends have the dreaded cough and cold that comes when the Summer heat arrives so drastically. You may have mentioned this before, but I wanted to ask...do you have a kindle where you read all your books, or do you purchase the books? Your bowl of soup looks yummy...I honestly could eat soup every day.. and we have eaten soup often lately with Sam not being able to eat a lot of other foods. We are Blessed with such wonderful husbands aren't we? Enjoy this beautiful but Hot. 1st day of July...
ReplyDeleteThat cough and cold does not sound pleasant.
DeleteNo, I guess I am just old fashioned, but I prefer to hold an actual book in my hands while I read. I do buy my books on either Amazon or Thrift Books depending on which is the cheapest.
I need to write down a list of the books you have recommended. I walked into a book store last week, and could not remember a single title of the books...
DeleteI understand that one completely.
DeleteFresh homegrown Shitake mushrooms in your soup ... lovely :)
ReplyDeleteSending good wishes for the new month of July.
All the best Jan
Yummy in the tummy with those mushrooms.
DeleteHappy July 1.
I'm smiling when you say 'yummy in the tummy' but so true :)
DeleteAll the best Jan
Oh yes, that copper mug will look beautiful with autumn flowers tucked in it. Congratulations on a long marriage, a strong friendship with your Strongheart and for love that continues to deepen. I wanted to thank you for your sweet and encouraging comments when you visit my blog. I am always blessed when you stop by. And oh I wish I was busy making jam. It is on my "summer bucket list" as something would like to learn to do. I have never made jam. Hope you are having a wonderful Thursday!!
ReplyDeleteJennifer, thank you so much for your kind words. I always enjoy having you stop by and always enjoy my time with you at your blog as well. Making jam is one of my favorite things when it comes to canning. You will do great!
