From My Journal

 TODAY IS July 7, 2025

AROUND ME once we get past today our temperatures are to be in the 70s and 80s.

I AM PONDERING how refreshing it will be to have temperatures in a comfortable range again...especially with low humidity!

AMONG MY FAVORITE THINGS

Walking into our church.
It's always like coming home.

BOOKS I AM CURRENTLY READING

The Yearling by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings.  I've not gotten very far in it but have enjoyed it so far.  I'm also enjoying a book of devotional readings titled Contentment by Lydia Brownback.

I AM THANKFUL FOR

This hardworking husband of mine as he is doing a labor of love for the Lord
by weeding the beautiful flower gardens that he's created around our church.

NEVER TOO OLD TO LEARN
what a precious character builder resilience is.  I'm thankful to the Lord for the lessons that I'm being educated in by the Holy Spirit as He leads and guides.

FROM THE KITCHEN

A few hours in the kitchen one afternoon produced these 20 jars of
Blueberry Jam.

SOMETHING I REALLY ENJOY

These beautiful Hollyhocks that Strongheart has nurtured along.
The peach colored one is the oldest and the other two are two years old now.

  1. I so enjoyed seeing a picture of your church. You talk so often about it and it's nice to see in person. I also enjoyed seeing Strongheart at work. Just yesterday, Bob said he'd have to go to church this week and do some weeding. :)
The blueberry jam looks so pretty.
We had hollyhocks that we really enjoyed and for some reason, they barely grew this year. We are so disappointed.
Have a blessed day as you get those things done in your home.

    1. Thank you, Friend. Our church building is four years old, and Carroll did the landscaping and tends to the weeding. The people are so appreciative of his work.

The jam was so much fun. This week it will be currant jam. I have seven trays of them waiting on me. Once I get the jam made, as well as a pie, the remainder of them will go in the freezer.

Hollyhocks were one of my father-in-law's favorite flowers. Those and Lilacs. We've noticed several places around us that now have Hollyhocks planted in their yards also.

  3. It is a beautiful morning here where I live. Dianna, your Hollyhocks are so pretty!! I always enjoy the old fashioned beauty of the Hollyhocks and yours are really standing out. Awesome quote by Jane Austen.... I so enjoy the comfort of our home. Your word Resilience really teaches us how to bend without breaking! Great choice of words. Thanking you for your prayers each day. Hope your week ahead is bursting with blessings.

    1. I'm so glad that you had a beautiful morning in your part of Texas. My heart goes out to those in a different area from where you live. Thank you for your kind words about the Hollyhocks. They were one of my father-in-law's favorite flowers. I never look at them without thinking of and missing him. You are most welcome for the prayers, my friend. It's a privilege.

    1. Thank you, Monica, for your kind words. We hit 90 today, but the rest of the week the temps are to be in the 70s and 80s with a chance of rain almost every day. The peach-colored Hollyhock is the oldest one and there have been years when it's been much fuller, but it's still pretty this year. Enjoy each day the Lord gives you to the fullest, Friend. xx

  6. I've enjoyed a couple of books by Lydia Brownback. I can't remember whether Contentment was one. Those hollyhocks are so pretty. Your church looks lovely. How kind of your husband to plant and weed around the church. I love that quote from Jane Austen.

    1. We have a book table in the entry at church that have books that our pastor has chosen that we can put money in the Book Fund for. But this particular book by Lydia Brownback was marked Free. I noticed on Sunday that there were a couple more free books, so I'm thinking that someone is going through their books and passing along some of them. We also have a library of sorts where we can just sign out some of the books. I'm really enjoying the devotional on Contentment.
We do enjoy our Hollyhocks! :)
Thank you for your kind words regarding my husband's labor of love at church as well as the kind words about the church. We've been in the building four years come December. The spring after we moved in, Carroll volunteered to do the landscaping. That's something that he loves to do. All of the perennials came from "extras" that we had here at the house and needed divided. Each spring he tries to put some new things in. Jane Austen's quote sets well with me as an introvert. :)

    1. Thank you, my friend. We were at the church on Wednesday, and I had finished the cleaning, and Hubby was still working outside with the weeding, so I decided to snap some pictures. I just turned around as I was headed to the door and snapped that one. Thank you for your kind words regarding Strongheart's efforts at making such a beautiful garden space there. It's something that he enjoys, and the people are so appreciative of his efforts.

I like the sound of you moving near me! How soon should I expect you? xx

    1. Thanks, Bill. We enjoy it there. I love jam making season! Our blueberries have done really well this year. I'm finished making jam with them so now all the rest go to the freezer. My husband just picked the currants today, so Wednesday will find me making currant jam. We enjoy blueberries in our porridge also! So glad to know that you and your wife got moved and that you are back to blogging.

    1. Isn't walking into church and feeling that you are home a wonderful feeling, Karen? And, yes, you are right...everyone does appreciate Carroll's hard work. We were told a week ago about a couple who doesn't go to church there, pulled into the parking lot and got out of their vehicle and walked all around the front and down the side so that they could see all of the flowers. So, I guess it's more than just the church folks who appreciate his efforts. :)

  11. Those jars of blueberry jam look wonderful!! So do the Hollyhocks. I especially admire the very dark one. It's almost black.
The story you told in your comment on my blog made me chuckle. I have a hard time thinking of you as a little girl being disobedient. I hope the car wasn't seriously dented.

    1. Thanks so much, GM, for your kind words. The darkest Hollyhock is almost black...probably like a very dark purplish blue.

You know...I can't remember if the car was dented or not and I can't even remember my parents punishing me. I was probably about 4 or 5 at the time. The only thing I remember is that it all happened in slow motion. :)

  13. Here in the UK we are experiencing heatwave temperatures and it is so uncomfortably hot!!!
Like you I am looking forward to temperatures coming down to a more comfortable range again...and humidity levels reducing.

It's always so welcoming and calming to walk into Church and your entrance looks most welcoming.

    All the best Jan
