From My Journal

 TODAY IS July 21, 2025

AROUND ME

I AM PONDERING

What love in action looks like.

AMONG MY FAVORITE THINGS

Veggies fresh from the garden

BOOKS I AM CURRENTLY READING

Rejoicing in Christ by Michael Reeves.

I AM THANKFUL FOR

Being able to make attractive food presentations for my sweet husband.

NEVER TOO OLD TO LEARN

That we can't live in the past.
The above photo is the 1886 brick farmhouse that I grew up in.
The farm was sold a few years ago.
The house was torn down.

And this beautiful home has taken its place.

A bit of the old still remains among the new.

FROM THE KITCHEN

Sausage Egg Casserole for future breakfasts in the freezer.

Pineapple Zucchini Muffins for future breakfasts

Broccoli Salad and Chicken with a crispy baked gluten-free crust and spicy BBQ sauce.
The chicken was absolutely delicious, and the crust was truly crispy.
You can find the recipe HERE at Jan's.

SOMETHING I REALLY ENJOY

Yummy homemade pizza!

  2. I sure enjoyed the array of gorgeous flowers... such a bright and bold pink coming from the lilies. It is difficult to see the past torn down and replaced by the new, but ALL things (even the things we love so very much) are eventually replaced by the New! Your meals look so very good and FRESH. Thank you for the scripture as well as the sweet quote. BTW.....each of your post of book reviews has encouraged me to read more!!

    1. Thank you, Shug. I thought of you when I posted the flower pictures. Yours are always so beautiful. The picture didn't really do the pink Lily justice, but it is beautiful. Thank you for the encouragement about the old and new and the reminder that eventually all of the old is replaced by the new. I'm delighted to hear that you are reading more. I pray that you are feeling better.

  3. Such beautiful flowers surrounding you right now. I can appreciate that love in action shot! You have a dear hubby. Those silos reminded me of a part of our pastor's prayer yesterday at church. He said something to the effect of 'don't live in the silo of your own life' . He was speaking to the importance of 'community' and the 'body of Christ'.

    1. Thanks, Ellen. We are enjoying the flowers so much this year. Yes, I do have a dear hubby. I have had some physical challenges this spring/summer season and he's taken on some of my responsibilities like that flower bed. I would have loved to hear your pastor's sermon yesterday about community and the body of Christ. Sounds wonderful! xx

    1. Well, thank you, my friend. We've had a lot of rain this spring/summer and I think that's made such a difference in how pretty all of the flowers are this year. Thank you for your kind words of encouragement. We try to love each other well. That chicken recipe from Jan is absolutely delicious and the sauce is really good for on it.

    1. Thank you, Karen, for your kind words. I have been admiring your pictures of your flowers this spring/summer, too, and they are gorgeous. Yeah, this post was kind of photo heavy, but that's just the way it works sometimes. I'm glad you enjoyed them all.

  6. Lovely flowers! That chicken recipe looks good. That's so true about living in the past. As we've been going through old boxes, I'm finding many things I am sentimental about and wish I had more time to go through, like old notes from high school and college. But that would make the process so much longer. Plus most of the information there is online now. I'm trusting that these have served their purpose and can be let go.

    1. Thanks, my friend. We do enjoy our flowers. I've been looking through a few drawers of late and have come across some old things. Some of the things have opted to keep because of their sentimental value...especially things that belonged to our parents at one time. But then there's other things that I am asking myself, "Why did I keep this?" :) Have a great week, my friend. I'm praying for you.

  7. Beautiful flowers, lovely old photo of the house you grew up in. The new house is making its own memories while the old one lives on in the photo and in your heart. Have a wonderful new week.

    1. Bill, thank you so much for your kind words and the encouragement they brought to me. I don't remember exactly when it was that we started commenting on one another's blogs, so you may have already seen this, but I don't think so. Anyway, here is a link to a blog post that I did about my memories of growing up in that farmhouse. https://joyfulinhispresence.blogspot.com/2024/01/the-things-memories-are-made-of.html

  8. Your flowers are beautiful.
I'd like one of those muffins!!
That is a nice house that replaced your old one. I'm sure the old one has many happy memories for you.

    1. Thank you, Karen. I keep meaning to ask you how your garden is doing.
Those muffins are really good. I put the majority of them in the freezer and pull some out now and then.
Yes, I was SO happy when I saw the new house that replaced the one that I grew up in. My grandparents worked long hard hours to purchase that farm and it holds many many fond memories for my brothers and myself. It is wonderful to see that the man who bought the farm truly appreciates it as our family did.

    1. Thanks so much, Jan. Yes, that farmhouse held a lot of memories for me and I am so thankful that God created us so that we could retain those memories.
My husband was doing a job that is normally mine. I was a bit under the weather, and he just went out and started weeding.
Thanks so much for your kind words regarding my baking and the dinner I prepared that one night. That chicken recipe is definitely a keeper at our house. I made some yellow squash patties for lunch today and we both said that the BBQ sauce for that chicken recipe would be a delicious dipping sauce for the squash patties. :) You are a blessing, my friend. I made the Eggplant Involtini this evening for dinner and it was another hit! It will be showing up on Monday's blog post. :)

    1. Hello Sadia! Thanks so much for your visit and for leaving a comment. I've never tried one of Jan's recipes that we didn't like, but I wasn't sure about how the chicken would do as far as crispiness because of it being done in the oven. It must have something to do with the coconut flour, but it was absolutely crispy, and the chicken was tender and juicy. Please let me know how it turns out for you.

    1. Thanks so much, my friend. The daylilies are mostly gone now, but those beautiful pink Phlox are still going strong. Yes, time does have a way of bringing about change. And I am learning to adapt more readily to change when it happens...but it's a slow process. xx
