If you are looking for a book to encourage you in your walk with the Lord Jesus, then I would recommend
Rejoicing in Christ by Michael Reeves.
One of the things that I enjoy so much about the author,
whether he is writing or whether I'm watching him teach/preach,
is how he loves Jesus with an overwhelming joy.
That certainly comes through in this book.
This is a book that is hard to give a complete review on without just writing out the entire book here.
I will, instead, give the titles of the five chapters of this book.
1. In the Beginning
2. Behold the Man!
3. There and Back Again
4. Life in Christ
5. Come, Lord Jesus!
A quote in the Introduction that spoke to me:
"We were made to find our satisfaction, our heart's rest, in him.
Quite simply, this book will be about enjoying him, reveling in his all-sufficiency for us, and considering all that he is: how he reveals such an unexpectedly kind God, how he makes, defines -how he is-the good news, and how he not only gives shape to but is himself the shape of the Christian life."
I also took note of the quote by the Scottish preacher
Robert Murray M'Cheyne that he included.
"Learn much of the Lord Jesus. For every look at yourself, take ten looks at Christ. He is altogether lovely. Such infinite majesty and yet such meekness and grace, and all for sinners, even the chief. Live much in the smiles of God. Bask in His beams. Feel His all-seeing eye settled on you in love, and repose in His almighty arms...Let your soul be filled with a heart-ravishing sense of the sweetness and excellency of Christ and all that is in Him."
In short, I believe this is a book that may speak to each individual right where you are in your walk with the Lord. This makes the second time that I've read it, and the Holy Spirit has worked in my life in different areas of my life this time than He did the first time I read it.
I definitely recommend the book!

This sounds like another good one!
ReplyDeleteIt truly is a good one and one I think you would enjoy.
DeleteI have listened to some of his podcast. I enjoy how he writes with so much clarity and how his work reminds us that Christianity is all about cherishing Jesus Himself and not just knowing HIM.
ReplyDeleteMy friend, you have no idea how you just made me day this morning when I read your comment. It blesses me so much that someone actually reads some of the things that I recommend or review and then comes back to tell me. Michael Reeves is so full of the joy of the Lord. xx
DeleteSounds like a keeper. Love the quotes.
ReplyDeleteThank you...I just can't say enough about Michael Reeves and how his joy in the Lord rubs off on those around him.
DeleteI've read his book - Delighting in the Trinity and it was also very book. If this book is anything like that one, I know I'll want to read it. Thanks for the review.
ReplyDeleteI THINK (mind you, I only THINK this) I may have given you this book at the same time I sent you Delighting in the Trinity. You would enjoy it, I'm sure. You are welcome for the review.
