From My Journal

 TODAY IS September 8, 2025

AROUND ME the crickets are still chirping, the sun is shining, and we've enjoyed some nice gentle rains.  The temperatures for this week are all to be in the 70s with mostly sunny skies, with lows in the high 40s and 50s. Sigh...autumn is a wonderful season.

I AM PONDERING how sitting before God in prayer and listening to Him through reading His Word can have such a powerful impact on how my day goes.  At times it's convicting as the Holy Spirit brings specific things and areas that need confessing, but even that brings joy in the end.

AMONG MY FAVORITE THINGS knowing that the Bible brings life into reality and has the power to change my way of thinking.

BOOKS I AM CURRENTLY READING  I'm still reading The Christian Life by Sinclair Ferguson, which is a book on doctrine.  My study in Hebrews hasn't gotten very far since last week.  I spent several days traveling to get a bit of produce and then preserving the said produce for winter.  I am also reading Pour Out Your Heart by Jeremy Linneman, which was given as a gift to me by a dear friend.  I'm almost finished with this book and look forward to doing a review of it soon.  It's a good book.

I AM THANKFUL FOR my husband, our children, their spouses, and our grandchildren, employment for a family member, my salvation, knowing God as my Father, my King and Redeemer Jesus Christ, and the precious Holy Spirit who leads and guides me through life.

NEVER TOO OLD TO LEARN that there's still so much to learn about life...even after living for 75 years.

FROM THE KITCHEN

6 quarts of whole tomatoes

12 pints of diced tomatoes

8 pints of salsa

SOMETHING I REALLY ENJOY fruit that is in season.

  1. your quote is spot on....Exactly why it is so important for us to stay in the word of God. Your journal notes are something I look forward to. The canned tomatoes and salsa looks wonderful...You have really been working, but doesn't it make you feel wonderful when you accomplish a big task? This is a great Monday to be filled with love and kindness....Have a good one Dianna

    1. I'm so glad that you enjoy the journal notes each week. It's something that I really enjoy doing. The tomatoes were three days of working up 1 1/2 bushels of tomatoes and I loved every minute of it. Canning and freezing food is one of the most rewarding things I do all year. :) xx

  2. Hello Dianna, greetings from the Netherlands! 👋
I enjoy reading your blog – it’s so beautiful, and I love seeing the photos you share as well. I read your posts with real interest. I’m especially curious about The Christian Life by Sinclair Ferguson. I would love to hear what you think of it once you’ve finished.

It’s also simply a joy to read how another believer lives daily life with the Lord in a different part of the world. Thank you for opening a little window into that – it’s encouraging. 🌸

    1. Hello Aritha! I just came from visiting your lovely blog. I want to thank you for your very kind and encouraging words that you've left for me. That means so much to me.

As a general rule, I do a book review on any of the books that I list on the blog that I am reading. I love reading and sometimes there's a bit of a backlog on how quickly I get a review out. But I will definitely be doing a review of Sinclair Ferguson's book. We've lost so many of the modern-day pillars of the faith over the last several years, so I am thankful that we still have Sinclair's presence with us.

  3. That's such a good quote and so needed in this time.
You did so good with all that canning! I wish I had more tomatoes to can, but I did get the salsa done!

    1. Yes, my friend, we certainly need to be comparing what we hear and what we read with how they line up with Scripture. There are so many false teachers out there and we need to be aware.

Thanks for your kind words regarding the canning of the tomatoes. I loved doing each of the things. Glad you got your salsa done. I thought about you on Friday when I was doing mine. I cheat a bit when it comes to that by using Mrs. Wages Salsa mix. I imagine you probably chopped all of your veggies, etc. and made your own.

  4. I love your quote. Everything we do, see or think should line up with God's word. It's a discipline, to be sure. Love all the tomatoes in various forms. I've been enjoying salsa lately so that looks particularly good.

Our temps are looking to be very close to yours this week. I'm so thankful and I think my fall decorations are going to come out soon.

    1. Lining ourselves up with Scripture is so important, isn't it?

Thanks for the kind words regarding the tomatoes in various forms. I normally make a mild salsa, but last year when I made it, we didn't think it had enough "bite" to it, so this year I used one notch up and it is definitely spicier than what I normally do, but we really like it.

Enjoy your fall decor when you bring it out. I still only have half the kitchen done and just the wreath on the front door, so I have more to get done, but other things have had priority over that. Maybe later this week.

  5. That saying of Elisabeth Elliot's is one of my favorites. My weather app shows us in the 70s this week as well, which I love. I'm waiting a while longer to get out my fall decorations, but I am looking forward to cooler temperatures and fall colors.

    1. It's hard to go wrong with an Elisabeth Elliot quote. 🥰 70 degree weather is my kind of weather too, Friend. I have the autumn wreath on the front door and the hutch in the kitchen is decorated for fall but there's still a lot more to do.

    1. Thanks, Bill. I have a lot of her quotes. I kind of cheat with the salsa. I buy a package of premeasured spices and make it that way.

    1. Thank you, Jan. Our garden didn't produce good tomatoes this year, so we went to an Amish community not far from us and bought a bushel and a half of tomatoes. I worked up a half bushel for three days in a row to get the pictured results . I thoroughly enjoy canning.

    1. I like Elisabeth Elliot's thoughts (quotes) because she was such a huge influence on my early Christian life.

Yes, I have been busy in the kitchen...three days last week, a half a bushel of tomatoes at a time. :) And I loved every minute of it.

    1. Thanks for your kind words, Friend. As it turned out, I didn't get all of those things accomplished on Monday, but most of them. I'm finding I'm moving a bit slower than my mind remembers. :)

    1. Thanks, Ellen, for your encouraging words. I'm thankful that event though our tomatoes didn't do well this year that I was able to purchase a bushel and a half to preserve for winter. Both of the books I mentioned are really good.
