TODAY IS December 29, 2025
AROUND ME We are enjoying the calm and quiet before more snow arrives. :) We are to have more snow on Tuesday with it snowing off and on through Thursday.
I AM PONDERING that this is my last From My Journal entry for 2025! We enjoyed a quiet and peaceful Christmas as we celebrated the birth of our Savior. I trust that each of you who read here also had a peaceful Christmas celebration.
AMONG MY FAVORITE THINGS reading good books and crocheting in the evenings. Hopefully next week, I will have a picture to share with you of the baby blanket I am currently working on.
BOOKS I AM CURRENTLY READING In the Midst of Life by Jennifer Worth, Child in the Manger by Sinclair Ferguson, and Christmas in My Heart 4 by Joe Wheeler. I've been ordering the Christmas in My Heart series through THRIFT BOOKS as used books. The prices are really good there. I was delighted when I opened up volume 4 to find that it was a signed copy from 1985!
I AM THANKFUL FOR my husband, our pastor and our church where we truly are family. I'm also thankful for the time we were able to spend with one of my brothers and his family last week. We are working on being able to get together with my other brother this week...provided we don't end up with a ton of snow. :)
FROM THE KITCHEN no pictures...again. But I promise, I have been cooking and baking. I made blueberry hand pies for a friend, a blueberry pie for us, and a yummy chicken recipe...so easy. Chicken tenders cooked 3 minutes on each side in olive oil and butter and seasoned with paprika, salt and pepper on each side. Then melt a bit more butter in the skillet and add some minced garlic and stir for a minute, then sprinkle with Italian seasoning and cook for one more minute. SO tender and juicy...and flavorful.
SOMETHING I REALLY ENJOY A good cookbook. I recently ordered and received on Saturday an Anti-Inflammatory Diet Slow Cooker recipe book! I'm excited to get started with it because there are some awesome sounding recipes in it.
QUOTE FOR THE WEEK
SCRIPTURE FOR THE WEEK
TO DO LIST FOR TODAY Enjoy the day!
"So teach us to number our days,
so that we may present to You a heart of wisdom"
Psalm 90:12

I'm looking forward to seeing the baby blanket you are working on. I haven't been doing anything with yarn recently. I need to get started.
ReplyDeleteI hope you can see your other brother this week and that the weather cooperates. We don't have any snow forecasted for my area but perhaps up in the higher elevations.
This is going to be a quiet week for me - take down decorations toward the end of the week and just relax. My late, sweet British mother-in-law would be appalled that I was taking the tree down before January 6th!
Have a lovely week and enjoy your snow.
I have just been doing three rows a day on it and this evening I just made it halfway through the pattern. It takes longer to complete a project this way, but it doesn't make my hands hurt.
DeleteWe are supposed to have a rather significant amount of snow between now and Thursday. I didn't realize that until after I had posted this morning. So, it's unlikely that I will get to see my brother this week, but we talked this morning, and we are both fine with it that way.
I'm glad you are having a quiet week this week. I'm sure the rest will do you good since you've not been doing well lately. I gathered all of the Christmas decor together today and tomorrow I plan to get it all upstairs and packed away for next year. :) Enjoy your time at home this week!
I'm so glad you had a nice week, got to spend time with your brother and made it to church. We are having a big storm here today. It rained much of yesterday, then changed to sleet and has now been snowing. It's supposed to develop blizzard like weather today with high winds. I was supposed to have a hair cut, but I'm going to have to cancel...
ReplyDeleteHope that you get to visit your other brother later this week!
After I posted this morning, I realized that we are also to have a big storm. The wind has been incredible today and it is to continue through the night. We could possibly end up with around 9 inches of snow and incredibly cold temperatures. We had a lot of rain last night. We've had some snow today, but it didn't really start sticking until late this evening. Our DOT truck has already been up and down our road spreading cinders, so I know they are expecting it to get bad. I'm so glad that you were going to cancel your hair appointment so that you don't have to be out in those blizzard conditions. I spoke with my brother this morning and we decided that with the weather the way it is being forecast that it will probably be next week before we get together.
DeleteGlad you had a peaceful Christmas! I hope you get to see your brother this week. No snow here yet, except a light dusting a few weeks ago. Which is fine with me. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Friend. It was a lovely Christmas. I'm still enjoying those Christmas in My Heart books by Joe Wheeler. I'm currently about halfway through volume 4. I have volumes 5 & 6 here now so I can continue reading once I finish volume 4. Living where you live, I can understand why you are happy with just a light dusting of snow. :)
DeleteMy daughter always says, "without pictures, it never happened!" Lolol
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a sweet Christmas!
Happy New Year!
hugs
Donna
lol...well, I had a text this evening from the friend I made the hand pies for, and she told me they were delicious so maybe we can get by without having to have pictures just this once. lol
DeleteWe did have a lovely Christmas, Donna. Thanks for stopping by. xx
I'm so glad to hear that you had a nice Christmas! Be safe in the coming snow. I hope it stays up north and we don't get any here! LOL! Your chicken sounds (smells) so good! I am hoping this new year brings joyful days ahead! Hope you have a wonderful New Year! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I was delighted to see a blog post up from you today. The DOT has been up and down our road already this evening spreading cinders, so I know they are expecting things to get rather bad. We are used to dealing with it though and with my husband being retired, we have the luxury of enjoying the beauty of the snow from inside our home. :)
DeleteI hope you have a wonderful start to the new year! I cannot believe it's the end of 2025!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Karen. I hope you do also. Praying for you, Friend. xx
DeleteJ.C. Ryle is another old and dead favorite of mine. :) Sounds like you've had good family time and good food. Blessings in the New Year!
ReplyDeleteI actually posted that quote today with you in mind because you had mentioned recently about Ryle...I believe you left one of his quotes in your comment recently. Trusting the Lord to give you and Greg a wonderful New Year. xx
DeleteSounds like a very nice week. Looking forward to seeing the baby blanket you're making.
ReplyDeleteIt truly was, Karen. I just finished row 28 tonight on the baby blanket, so I am officially halfway through the project. I only do three rows a day/night so that my hands don't hurt. Takes longer that way, but slow and steady gets the job done. :)
DeleteSo pleased you had a good Christmas ... I did too spending time with family and grandchildren.
ReplyDeleteYour chicken meal sounds delicious ... enjoy your new cookery book.
All the best Jan
Thank you, Jan. I was delighted to hear that you had time with family and your grandchildren. I tried my first recipe today out of the Anti-inflammatory slow cooker book, and it turned out good. Have a good week, my friend. xx
DeleteChrist is All. Amen and Hallelujah!! You are amazing with how fast you read. It takes me a while to read a single book and here you are reading several a week. This is great. Isn't it so nice to sit in the stillness of the evening and just to feel the calmness around you? This is the best time of the day for me. Will be excited to see the blanket you are working on... Enjoy the snow..
ReplyDeleteWell, my friend, I read like a chapter at a time when I am reading more than one book at a time. My husband is also an avid reader so we do spend a lot of time in the evening with our books and spend time talking about them. Reading keeps me from scrolling on my phone . 🙂 And I am doing three rows an evening on the blanket which makes for a good time to listen to a sermon online. We had a couple of inches of snow last night but we are to get more Wednesday through Thursday from the next storm that's coming through. At least the wind has died down considerably now.
DeleteWe hsd s peaceful Christmas too. Wishing you a happy and healthy 2026.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that you and your wife had a peaceful Christmas too, Bill. And thank you for the well wishes for 2026.
DeleteA new cookbook! I like that idea. I kind of got away from cookbooks...was looking for recipes on Pinterest. But I don't enjoy Pinterest nearly as much as I once did (nothing but ads!) and I enjoy looking through the actual cookbook as I do cooking a recipe from one! Crocheting in the evenings sounds perfect with all the snowy days you have been having. No snow here but it sure has been chilly!!
ReplyDeleteI get a lot of recipes from Pinterest and the internet, but I also love a good cookbook. I'm enjoying this one because it is helping to get me back on track with the anti-inflammatory diet and everything is so easy...basically a dump and go.
DeleteI do enjoy crocheting. It gives me something to do besides scroll on my phone, for one thing, and I also take advantage of that time to listen to sermons online.
