Benefiting from Life's Trials ~ a book review

Benefiting from Life's Trials by John Mac Arthur is a study of
James 1:2-18.

My copy that was sent to me by Grace to You free of charge has a different cover, but I feel certain that the material is the same on the inside.

I've enjoyed Dr. MacArthur's Bible studies that I have done and this one was no exception.  It's done in an outline form, much like his book on Christian character that I read recently.  However, it does read quite differently than his books as opposed to the Bible studies.  I enjoy his work because he has such a way with words in making the material easy to read and understand...even the doctrines of Scripture.

This Bible study gives an introduction on the purpose of trials and then proceeds to three chapters of "From Trouble to Triumph".
He then deals with "Whose Fault Is Our Temptation"
(which I found to be very enlightening).

The final chapter in the book is titled
"Born to Holiness".
Depending on one's background the word "holiness" may mean different things to different people.  Dr. MacArthur shows us the Biblical view.
We can't get away from the fact that God calls us to holiness in Scripture.
1 Peter 1:16.

In this last chapter that deals with holiness I found the best explanation of regeneration that I've ever come across.  Dr. MacArthur explains it in a way that is easily understood.

Definitely a book that I would recommend.

    1. My prayers continue for you, my sweet friend. Trials are hard, but He allows them for our growth. I certainly learned that last year with my word resilience. And it's carrying through this year with some things I'm dealing with. In Him, it's all good in the end. Sometimes it's just getting to the end that's the trick. 🙃

  8. This sounds good! I was just telling someone today that sometimes the "big" trials are easier to hand over to the Lord--there's nothing we could do about them anyway. It's usually the little everyday annoyances and irritations that get to me more. Yet God has a purpose even in those.
