From My Journal

 TODAY IS January 12, 2026

AROUND ME  We enjoyed some warmer temperatures last week, but they were accompanied by some winds, and rain which made it feel colder than what was registering on the thermometer.  However, this week, we only have two days in the 40s forecast and the majority of the rest of the week is to be in the 20s and 30s.  We accept it because we can't change it, and because it is winter...the temperatures are supposed to be cold. :)

I AM PONDERING how wonderful it is to have a healthcare provider who deeply cares about the welfare of her patients.

AMONG MY FAVORITE  THINGS

The baby blanket is finished!

BOOKS I AM CURRENTLY READING The Sermon on the Mount (Kingdom Life in a Fallen World) by Sinclair Ferguson.  I'm really excited about this book, as we spent a bit over a year in church studying the Sermon on the Mount, so this book is like a refresher course for me.  Christmas in My Heart 6 by Joe Wheeler.  The joy continues as I add to my collection of these heartfelt books of Christmas stories from a Christian worldview.  I have books 7,8, and 9 coming!

I AM THANKFUL FOR the Lord giving us safe travels to church and back yesterday.

NEVER TOO OLD TO LEARN (OR BE REMINDED) I'm so excited about this but can only share the fringes ~ just because we don't see physical evidence of God's working in answering our prayers, it certainly does not mean that He is not working! Amen and Amen!

FROM THE KITCHEN  Again, I do not have pictures, but I do want to share with you that last Saturday I made a pot of Leek and Potato and Kale soup.  It's a recipe I discovered from my friend Karen on her blog PUMPKIN SUNRISE back in 2014.  It's my comfort food and I've made it for years now.  You can find the recipe by clicking on the link Pumpkin Sunrise.  Stop by and say hello to Karen!  She's a lovely person.

SOMETHING I REALLY ENJOY is reading...guess that doesn't come as a shock or surprise to anyone who reads here regularly. :)

  1. Your blanket looks so precious! Soft! :) Our weather is like a roller coaster which effects my depression a lot. I need sunshine! LOL! I love to read too but I believe that my depression has zapped me of any motivation to read. I am back on medication so I hope that things will be back to normal around here soon. Amen for wonderful healthcare providers! I hope you have a blessed day!

  2. And we are extremely Blessed to live in a Country where we can have bibles. So true, our Bible reading is not just an option, it truly is a necessity. Your blanket looks so perfect, so pretty, and so well crocheted. This is a lovely gift. So many times I have said that what our health care needs is more Doctor Welbys. Do you remember that show. It is a huge blessing to have a doctor who cares....not one who counts you as a number. I admire young doctors who want to pray with you and we have several of these in our area. Have a super great day Dianna. Thank you for your sweet message.

    1. Yes, we are, Shug. And I pray that we never lose that privilege. Thank you for your kind words regarding the baby blanket. I do remember Dr. Welby! I hadn't thought about him in years. Praying for you and Sam . xx

  3. The blanket is beautiful!
It's cold here too. Can you believe that yesterday as we drove to church we saw a rainbow? So crazy in January in the snow. But it was beautiful!
I'm thankful with you for your caring medical provider.

    1. Thank you, my friend. I had fun making it. That's so amazing about the rainbow. That's happened here once. I am thankful for my NP too. She's really helped me take charge of my health in so many ways.

  4. The blanket is beautiful! So delicate. I'm glad you had a safe trip to church and back yesterday. The cold and snow can make roads icy and treacherous.
I've made a TBR list to give me some direction for my reading this year. I have so many on my bookshelf that needs reading! Have a blessed week.

    1. Thanks, Friend, for your kind words about the blanket. I had fun making it. We knew that the snow was coming but it was only supposed to be snow showers and no mention of the ice. My TBR list is a pile instead of an actual list and I have been stocking up. Pastor just announced Sunday that he's ordered more books so I am guessing my pile is going to be getting higher. 🙂

  5. The joy of coming back to my blog reading list! I know I have quite a few past entries to catch-up... I took a greater length of time "break" than expected. I am still in high activity/event mode so I will not be posting until next week...Lord willing. But I have a few minutes today to begin reading and commenting.Yes, I know you love reading, as do I. You read some good Christian non-fiction ones too. Do you ever enjoy reading classics? Leek, potato, and kale soup, you can't go wrong with those ingredients, chicken broth base I am assuming. Your crocheted baby blanket is lovely. Are you basically a project or process crocheter? I like to quote that scripture from Psalm 90 every day. I am looking forward to reading about your word of the year. Blessings to you!

    1. Cathy, it's so good to hear from you. I've been wondering if you are okay. I have a list of classics that I want to read, but haven't started yet. It's one thing I would like to increase this year. As for the soup...she just listed the broth as broth, but I generally use chicken broth. Sometimes I use vegetable broth. Thank you for your kind words about the baby blanket. I'm more of a project crocheted. My next project will be a hooded scarf from a pattern that a friend at church is going to bring me. I wanted to tell you that the Lord used you to put a yearning in my heart to once again begin memorizing Scripture. I'm currently working on Philippians 3 and also reviewing Romans 12. Thank you for being an instrument of His grace. My word for 2026 is self control. I am looking forward to the first post.

  7. The blanket is so pretty! We're in a for a cold spell and possibly snow this week. As you said--it is winter! I've been thankful for the more moderate days we've had but I know not to expect them all winter.

I have experienced seeing the results of something where it looked for a long time that nothing was happening--only to discover that God was working "behind the scenes"
all along. I am trusting He is doing the same in some for whom I am praying.

I love the quote from EE.

    1. Thank you for your kind words, Barbara . We enjoyed our stretch of warmer weather. It rained most of those days and the wind was breezy, so it didn't feel quite as warm as thermometer read.

You expressed my sentiment exactly concerning God working in the lives of those we are praying for, whether we see physical evidence of it or not.

I thought of you when I posted that quote.🙂

  8. Congrats on finishing that blanket. It looks lovely! And I think it is wonderful that you have a genuine healthcare provider. I try not to be cynical but I have given up the thought of ever finding such a provider/medical professional. You have a blessing there!! I hope your week is off to a good start...and, yes, so thankful for the Lord's protection as you drove home from church yesterday!

  10. Nice baby blanket, it will keep the baby nice and warm. My wife made a few of them through the years when some of our friends and family had babies. It's nice to have a health provider who actually listens to their patients, some of them don't which is unfortunate for the patient. Have a wonderful week.
