The weather forecast for our area was turning back to winter weather after some gorgeous spring days. So, I decided to take a walk through the yard on Monday before the snow hit and get some pictures of the flowers that are in bloom right now.
And then just as I was almost finished with the walk, I happened to look up and saw this...
It's our neighborhood hawk with his wings spread wide. I've seen him seated on fence posts in our backyard before, but this was the first time I had seen him with his wings spread wide.

So sweet to see all those flowers. Besides the daffodils, are those Lenten Rose patches? The hawk photo with his wings out is excellent. Fun! Two more days of winter, my friend.
ReplyDeleteYes, that's one Lenten Rose, just taken from two different angles. They will get divided this fall. That plant is way too big.
DeleteHope the flowers will survive the chill you are expecting. The hawk is amazing, probably watching you walk around. :)
ReplyDeleteWell, Bill, unfortunately they look pretty sad now. Our temps were in the low 20s and 30s so I am really glad that I got the pictures when I did. Thanks for your kind words about the hawk picture. I actually took that picture with my phone camera at 10X the normal pixels. I was afraid that it would collapse its wings before I could get the shot. I was amazed at how long it actually set there like that with its wings spread.
DeleteLast night as we were heading out, a neighborhood hawk flew in front of the car! That was fun. And I actually have been gathering a few photos while I was out walking. I love all the daffodils in your yard! Its rather chilly today...but surely spring is just around the corner!!
ReplyDeleteWe can always hope...that spring is just around the corner. :)
DeleteSo nice to see all those daffodils. Haven't see any around here yet.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Karen. They look pretty sad right now though after the snow and cold temps.
DeleteThank you for these lovely photographs, I always enjoy seeing daffodils.
ReplyDeleteThe hawk is amazing you were so fortunate to capture that photograph.
All the best Jan
Thanks for the kind words, Jan. I know. When I saw the hawk with its wings spread, I was afraid it would fly off before I could snap the picture. I've seen it sitting on some of our fence posts before, but this was the first time that I'd seen it with its wings spread like that.
DeleteOh, the flowers are so pretty! And they bring the promise of spring and warmth and sun and rain! Thank you for sharing, my friend.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that I took those pictures when I did. We have had cold temperatures and snow since then and they all look pretty sad right now.
DeleteI love seeing the signs of spring here! The hawk looks ready to take off!
ReplyDeleteThat hawk was something else. I have seen it before sitting on our different fence posts, but this was the first I had seen it with its wings spread. And the crazy thing is that it set there like that for a good five minutes. It's like it was posing for me
DeleteWhat a lovely walk! And how fun to catch the eagle in flight. I see from some of the other comments that some of the flowers didn't survive the cold snap. I'm glad you got to enjoy them before that, and I trust there will be more as spring gets closer and settles in more definitely.
ReplyDeleteYes, my yard definitely looks worse now, but there will still be more to look forward to. xx
DeleteBeautiful photos...I actually think the daffodils and other early Spring flowers are enjoying the weather. What a surprise for you to see the eagle with open wings. A sweet blessing..
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind words, my friend. The flowers don't look quite as pretty now as they did in the pictures, but there will be more to come. That hawk with its wings spread was the icing on the cake.
DeleteYour Daffodils and Hellebores are so lovely!! It's obvious they're happy growing where they are.
ReplyDeleteThank you. The Hellebores needs to be divided this year, but it was beautiful
DeleteAll the flowers are so beautiful! We had a hard freeze Tuesday and it kills all our azalea bushes. They are awful looking and so they will need to be replaced. They are across the front of our home. Look at the Hawk! Wow!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for stopping by and leaving kind words for me, Friend. xx
DeleteI love seeing your yard, Dianna. So many beautiful daffodils. Mine are nearing the end of their blooming cycle. I haven't heard of hellebores but they are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWell, those particular ones look a bit worse for the wear the next day because we got snow and below freezing temps the same night I took those pictures. But there are others in the yard that are just coming out now. The Hellebores is often referred to as Lenten Rose. It makes no difference how early or how late Easter is, that plant always...always has developed buds by the beginning of Lent. xx
Deleteyou have a beautiful yard with so many delightful cheerful signs of spring!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind words, my friend. xx
