Fibromyalgia

I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 2004 by an internal medicine doctor.  The past twenty years have been an adventure and one that I love sharing with others who may have been given this same gift to endure.

The good news is that we can do more than just endure!  There are so many things that we can do to help ourselves to keep the pain minimual.

First step, of course, is to accept the facts.  For me, that was the hardest part...it took me two years of wrestling with "why me?" , but once I was past that, it did become a little easier to deal with.

About ten years ago, I was put on a prescription drug for it and as time went on, I found it necessary to have the medication dosage increased.

In 2018 I started seeing a Nurse Practioner and was at that time on five prescription medications.  As we got acquainted and she became familiar with my different health issues she slowly began taking me off some of the medications I was on.

In 2021 I was at a point where I was totally miserable.  I spoke with my NP about the anti-inflammatory diet and asked her if she thought it would be worth me giving it a try.  She definitely gave me the go ahead and I ordered this book.

While I waited for the book to come, I began by eliminating added sugars from my diet.  Once the book came, I began using it.  The reason this particular book appealed to me is because it has six weeks worth of meal plans (breakfast, lunch, dinner), shopping list and recipes included.  All of the hard work was done for me!

I started that in June of 2021 and by December of that year when I had my regular check-up with my NP, I had so little pain and discomfort associated with fibromyalgia that I asked her what she thought about me trying to go off the prescription medication I was on for fibro.  She said she knew I could do it and she set a schedule for me to go off the medication.  The middle of February 2022, I took my last prescription medication pill.  I had lost 30 pounds and no longer needed the blood pressure medicine I was on and then when I took the last pill for the fibromyalgia I was finished with all of the five prescription medicines I had been on in 2018 when I first started seeing her.

Let me say that it wasn't all easy...but I had committed it all to the Lord in prayer and even though I had hard days, He was there and gave me the strength that I needed to stay  on course.

Diet, exercise and enough good sleep are essential for our bodies, regardless of our health situtation, but especially when one has fibromyalgia.

This has been my experience...if you are struggling and need encouraged please feel free to contact me at the email located in my profile.

  1. I'm glad you talked about your battle with fibromyalgia here. I too agree that life style changes (the food we eat and exercise) are keys to managing this. Good job.
