Do you have books sitting on your bookshelves that you have accumulated over a period of let's say...years? Would you like to get them off the shelves, into your hands, and read? Then perhaps you would join me in this reading challenge that my friend Barbara shared over at her blog today. I've never participated in a challenge although I love to read. In 2023 I read a total of 50 books...just three short of the goal I had set for myself. However, I have several books in the bookcase that I have had for quite a while that I have not read yet. So, I decided that this particular challenge would be a good way to get them read.
My Reader's Block has a reading challenge called 2024 Mount TBR that looks like fun to me. Each level (number of books you accept as a challenge) is named after a mountain. Since this is my first time trying a reading challenge, I decided to go for Pike's Peak, which is 12 books for the year. I'm fairly certain that will definitely help me weed out some books on the shelves.
If you are interested in this fun challenge you can find the sign up form here. Hope to enjoy your company as we read together.
I'm considering this challenge since I have more unread than read books on my shelves. :)
ReplyDeleteI think it will be a good motivation for me to move some of the books that have been hanging around for a while.
DeleteI'm relieved I am not the only with with several unread books on my shelf, and in my Kindle app! It is fun to have the extra motivation to work on them. I'm excited you're joining in the challenge!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Barbara. I'm excited about it too. I've promised myself that there will be no more new purchases until I have read what's on the shelves already.
DeleteI've actually pretty much caught up with my books to read.
ReplyDeleteThat's great, Karen!
DeleteExcited to participate in the reading challenge, and looking forward to exploring new books; https://www.melodyjacob.com/2024/01/sulina-shop-facial-uplifting-oil-review.html.
ReplyDeleteGreat, Melody! Be sure to check out the form and rules for the challenge.
DeleteWhat a great idea! I always feel it is rewarding when I make the time to read more.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I both enjoy reading but last year was the first year that I actually wrote down a list of what I'd read. I'd set a goal of 53 but actually finished out with 50. With this being the first time I've ever done an actual challenge, I decided to just start with 12 as my goal. I know I will read a lot more than that, but I will feel accomplished when I've actually met the goal for Pike's Peak.
DeleteI've been thinking about this challenge as well. I do have several that I've not read but unsure of the number to choose. I did the Goodreads Challenge this year again. I exceeded my goal by 3 books last year. Gonna think about it!
ReplyDeleteMelanie, I know that I will easily have the number of unread books on my bookshelves for Pike's Peak, which is 12. But I didn't want to put a lot of pressure on myself where the challenge is concerned, so I chose Pike's Peak after reading the rules. I also know that I will read a lot more books than 12 in 2024 because in year 2023 I read 50. But I have next year to look forward to with the TBR challenge, Lord willing, and I will go for a different level then.
DeleteI like to do reading challenges occasionally because they get me expand my choices. Hope you have fun with this one, Dianna!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lisa! Hopefully this will help me move some books that have been sitting on my shelves for a while.
