From My Journal

  TODAY IS June 23, 2025

AROUND ME there are promises of very warm days...the majority of the week is predicted to be in the 90s, which means I will be doing weeding in the flower beds early in the mornings.

I AM PONDERING where we are as a country and culture at this present time and how thankful I am that God is in control...HE has a plan, and HE uses a variety of people and things to orchestrate it all.  Truly believing that relieves me of living in fear.

AMONG MY FAVORITE THINGS is spending time with friends.  Saturday, I spent the afternoon and part of the evening with a close friend.  We made memories by going thrifting, antiquing and dinner out.  Such fun!

BOOKS I AM CURRENTLY READING A Vision for Missions by Tom Wells.  I will soon be finished with it and then I think the next one will be The Yearling by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings.

I AM THANKFUL FOR good friends, men of God who faithfully proclaim the Word of God, times of refreshment that the Lord gives me, my husband, our children and their spouses and our grandchildren.

NEVER TOO OLD TO LEARN that it's the little day by day things that we do that bring great satisfaction to the end project.

FROM THE KITCHEN

This was a new recipe that I found on Pinterest.
It's turkey sausage, broccoli, brown rice, and cheese.
If I make it again, I'm going to leave out the cheese.

Chicken Traybake
This was delicious and will definitely make it again.
You can find the recipe HERE.
Jan posts the best recipes there.
I've not tried one that we didn't enjoy
(and I've tried MANY of them).

SOMETHING I REALLY ENJOY

  2. The fact that God has a plan and is in control is always a comfort!
    Your flowers are beautiful.
I agree - Jan has great recipes.

    1. Yes, Mari. I'd hate to be living without that comfort.
Thanks for your kind words about the flowers. I worked a bit more early this morning in the other big flowerbed. It's a lot bigger than the one pictured today, so it will take a while.
Yes, Jan does have great recipes! We've enjoyed every one of the ones that we've tried.

  3. your lilies look lovely! for some reason the deer have eaten ours, those little stinkers. Maybe some will survive. I have not read the yearling!

    1. Thanks, Karen. The only reason that the deer haven't eaten my lilies is because that flowerbed is behind a large fence. :) My husband has some lilies planted on the outside of the fence and the deer mistook them for their breakfast, lunch or dinner. :)

I'll do a review on The Yearling at some point. I've not read it either, but I have heard that it's really good.

  4. I very much agree with your pondering. Sometimes it's hard to know how to pray for things regarding our country, especially when we as a people don't know all the details involved. But we can always pray for God's will to be done.

Are those day lilies? I'm thinking about proposing those for our fenceline next time. The wildflowers are fun and pretty, but it would be nice to have perennials in there so we don't have to replant every year.

That's a fun meme about gardening.

I have a turkey sausage/broccoli/rice dish that's one of my favorites. I'll have to send it to you, along with another that has turkey sausage, pasta, and vegetables. The chicken tray meal looks good!

I'm glad you had a good time with your friend! One of my oldest friends is coming for a day next week. I'm so looking forward to catching up with her.

I love that saying from the Proverbs 31 study.

    1. Regarding your response to the pondering section...isn't a comfort to know that when we don't know exactly what to pray that the Holy Spirit interprets our heart and takes it to the Lord. May His will be done.

Your question about the lilies is one that I'm not sure how to answer because people in different regions refer to lilies in a multitude of different ways. In our area, what we refer to as a day lily are the ones that are common along the roadside around here (as well as in the gardens) are orange in color and are called day lilies because their bloom only lasts for a day. The burgundy ones that I have pictured are more on the order of the lilies at Easter time...only they aren't white. Carroll has some white ones in his wildflower bed, but they aren't as tall as mine because they are outside the fence and the deer keep eating them back. I agree with you about how nice it would be to have some perennials planted along the fence. Wish you were closer, and we could supply you with different perennials.

I would certainly appreciate the turkey sausage recipes that you mentioned. Thank you so much for offering! And, yes, the chicken traybake was delicious. Jan at The Low Carb Diabetic has the best recipes!

How exciting to get to spend time with one of your oldest friends! I know it will be a joy for you.

      Have a wonderful week! xx

    1. Thank you, Ellen. One year our son and daughter-in-law were here for either Easter or Mother's Day and gifted me with the Lily. I am pretty sure it was one of the years they were here at Easter. I love the color.

I was out early this morning doing a bit of weeding. The bed I'm working on is rather large, so I just take small sections at a time to work up.

I had a wonderful time getting together with my friend. Yes, it was like balm to the soul. She's a lovely Christian lady and our likes are quite similar, so we had fun spending a few hours in an antique shop. SO fun!

    1. Yes, Karen, it certainly is. I'm in Chronicles in my daily Bible reading for the Old Testament and while it contains a lot of genealogy, it also is a great reminder of how God works out His plan through others. Hope you had a lovely weekend. xx

    1. Thank you, Jan. I enjoy my flowers but haven't been as active as I normally have been in the flowerbeds this year. My husband did the first weeding in them back when I was really sick after Easter, but I've been doing better and just taking my time and enjoying my time in them.

That traybake was SO good! We had it the first night for dinner, my husband had leftovers the next evening when I was gone, and then we finished it off at lunch yesterday. He said the recipe is definitely a keeper. :)

I'm glad you enjoyed the Scripture and quote from my Pinterest boards. I'm forever adding to my boards.

  9. So nice you had an afternoon with your friend. Sounds like my kind of afternoon! I, too, am glad that God is in control. No matter what the headlines might want us to believe. And I'm glad He send the rain showers just when we need them. Phew - definitely time for early morning weeding!

  10. What can Is say...I enjoy all your journal recordings! But to comment on a few, we do have the blessed assurance In Him so that we do not have to fear. It is so very hot here too, about 100 today. I go out early and come in drenched...literally, to the shower I go. Blessings!

    1. Awww...thank you, Cathy. Praise Him every day for that blessed assurance we have IN HIM. The highest temperature we saw today was 95 and that was when we were in Morgantown. Coming back to the mountains made it a few degrees cooler. Enjoy the rest of your week! xx

  12. LOVE Proverbs 31. "Her home is a reflection of her love" "Her presence is felt in every corner." This is what I hope for my home. This post is such a lovely and thoughtful reflection and I truly enjoyed reading it just now. Your words about trusting God's plan in the midst of uncertainty are such a comfort and reminder the He is in control, even when the world feels shaky. I smiled at your note about early morning weeding..Sounds like a Texas summer survival strategy. Thank you for sharing your heart so beautifully...

    1. Dear Shug, I am almost certain that those are some of the Proverbs 31 lady's attributes that are felt in your home...and a lot more. Thank you for your kind words. I think of all the posts I do, the From My Journal ones are my favorites to do because it makes me reflect on the things that are going on in my life. Yes, His being in control is such a comfort. When I pray for you and Sam, I remind Him of that and ask Him to give you both comfort, peace and abiding joy. xx
