From My Journal

  TODAY IS July 28, 2025

AROUND ME

The flowers continue to give us beauty.
The last two pictures are of Strongheart's "wildflower garden".
It starts at our upper driveway next to the house,
and continues to our lower driveway.

I AM PONDERING "Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things". Philippians 4:8  NASB 1995  It's the way of Kingdom thinking and living in His presence that brings us joy.

AMONG MY FAVORITE THINGS

 Yummy ways to use Zucchini
Chocolate Zucchini Muffins

BOOKS I AM CURRENTLY READING

Last week I finished Rejoicing in Christ by Michael Reeves as well as Suffering and Singing by John Hindley.  I am about  to begin reading The Blessed and Boundless God by George Swinnock.  Swinnock is a Puritan writer that I've not read before and am looking forward to starting.

I AM THANKFUL FOR fresh produce from our garden and Strongheart's labors of love.

One evening we had a meatless meal and enjoyed food from the garden.
Zucchini "crab cakes", creamed Swiss Chard, mashed potatoes and tomatoes.
Strongheart wanted to try a new potato this year.
It's called Huckleberry Gold.
It has a purple skin, and golden flesh.
It is to have the lowest glycemic level of the potatoes.

NEVER TOO OLD TO LEARN that change is good.

FROM THE KITCHEN

Eggplant Involtini
Recipe found HERE.
Thanks, Jan!
It was delicious!

I served it with broccoli fresh from the garden and a Mediterranean style tomato, cucumber and red onion salad with a balsamic dressing.

SOMETHING I REALLY ENJOY
the time I've been set apart this past week.  It has given me more time to read and rest.

    1. I've recently tried doing a load or two a day of laundry, but I went back to making Monday laundry day. That way it's taken care of for the week. I am glad that you are encouraged when you stop in. All glory to Him Who loves us! Makes me smile. xx

  3. Your flowers are beautiful! Ours are suffering from the drought we are dealing with. Bob waters them but it's not like rain. Bob also started a wildflower patch and we've really enjoyed them.
    Your food looks delicious!
    Love the gratitude meme.

    1. Thank you, my friend. We've had so much rain this spring/summer and WV has had a LOT of flooding. But then we didn't have any rain for a bit to amount to anything. Saturday and Sunday the Lord blessed us with some, and it has really made a difference both for the flowers and the veggies. I hope you get rain soon. Thanks so much, Mari, for your kind and always encouraging words that you leave for me. xx

  5. The flowers are so pretty. We've had wildflowers along the back fence the last two years. There was supposed to be a variety of them, but primarily cosmos and this year, sunflowers, have come up. I want to talk to Jim about the possibility of planting perennials next year.

I love the last two graphics.

    1. Thank you, Barbara. We've really enjoyed the flowers this year. My husband has a good many perennials in his "wildflower" bed, too. He started that bed one time when I was having a major fibro flare and battling depression. I can see the flowers from our living room window, and he did it to cheer me up. It really was mostly wildflowers when he first started it but has since added in many perennials.

I enjoyed those last two graphics as well.

  6. ok, my mouth is watering! LOL! How nice it is to eat from the garden. I miss those days but not the labor involved. Wonderful scripture to ponder. I am going to be starting a book that you recently reviewed...Delighting in the Trinity. Looking forward to it.

    1. Yes, my friend, it is lovely to eat from the garden. My husband enjoys gardening and that's where he spends a great deal of his time in the spring/summer. My labor only comes in when it is time to preserve the food. I am so excited to hear what you have to say about Michael Reeves book.

  7. I really like the graphic on gratitude. So very true. All your cooking endeavors look so good. Well, maybe the eggplant might not work since I'm allergic to eggplant. :( I really like the look of the wildflower beds. So pretty! I'm learning to be more flexible. Change is hard for me. I find my little rut and stay there very happily! :)

    1. I promise I won't ever try to serve you eggplant. I like having you around, so don't want you to go having any kind of allergic reaction to it. The wildflower bed has grown in variety and number of flowers since you were here. I've never liked change either, Melanie. Just set me up on my routine and I'm good. But little by little the Holy Spirit is teaching me that change can be good...sometimes very good.

  9. I'm reading this just before dinner time. My, do those plate-fuls look like wonderful eating! Might your "chef," Strongheart, be your husband? My husband enjoys cooking too, for which I am SO thankful, because I DON'T! 😁 P.S. Love the quote--gratitude is a powerful attitude-changer!

    1. Hello Nancy. It's so nice to have you stop by for a visit. Regarding the plates of food and my comment about Strongheart's labor of love...yes, Strongheart is my husband. We share the labors of love around here. He grows the beautiful produce and I cook/bake it up. He does make a great brownie! He can definitely cook, but the kitchen is my happy place, so I do the majority of the cooking and baking.

  10. I love white zinnias! Your food plates are tantalizing, and to think of how most is from your garden. Philippians 4:8 is always worth pondering. Your post shows your ponderings are producing fruit!😊

    1. Carroll has put a lot of effort and time into that wildflower garden. He's got some perennials in there too, but for the most part, they are wildflowers.

We need to plan to get together and then I will make some more of those chocolate zucchini muffins and bring some to you. :)

    1. Thank you for your kind words, my friend. We had another meatless meal this evening and everything was from the garden...including apples from one of our trees. I used some of them to make southern fried apples. Yum! I also made bread today, so that was added to the table, along with some Amish butter that we buy at a Mennonite bulk food store about half an hour from us...and of course, that required some homemade cherry jam and/or currant jelly. :)
