In God does His best work with empty, Nancy Guthrie takes us on a journey of hungering for Christ and being filled with
His Provision
His Presence
His Grace
His Kindness
His Life
with Meaning
with Faith
with Joy.
This was a book that was given to me by a Sister-in Christ for my birthday last month and it was my first exposure to this author.
It will not be my last. She's written many books as well as devotionals that I definitely want to obtain.
Some of the quotes that really stood out to me enough that they went in my "quote journal" are as follows.
"God is giving us the opportunity to live out what we say we believe."
"Anyone or anything that rivals the place that belongs to God alone is the well you have dug for yourself to drink from. And eventually you will discover that this well, this cistern, is cracked and broken."
"Giving ourselves away...doesn't empty out our lives;
it fills them up with real meaning and lasting significance. Everything we do for Christ and through Christ and in Christ is going to matter into eternity."
"When life appears to have no meaning, it's not that our conclusion is wrong; it's that our perspective is limited."
This book is filled with Scripture and takes us into the lives of Moses, Adam and Eve, Naomi, Ruth and Boaz just to name a few to see how God leads us through life when we hunger for Him.
I would definitely recommend this book!

I've not heard of this author before. This sounds like a very worthwhile read. Thanks for the review.
ReplyDeleteIt truly was, Melanie. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteI've heard of Nancy Guthrie but we don't have anything on our shelves by her. Love the quotes you shared. I'll check out her devotionals. Thank you for your review. Happy day to you! Today is a recovery day for us after our busy time with company.
ReplyDeleteI think you would be blessed by her godly insight, Ellen. Rest up, my friend. xx
DeleteI've not heard of her. Those are some great quotes!
ReplyDeleteI had heard of her before but hadn't read anything by her until my sister-In-Christ from church gave me this book for my birthday. I finished it in no time!
DeleteI've read a couple of Nancy's books and really enjoyed them. This looks interesting.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, I found this font a little hard to read.
It really is good, Barbara. I thought I had read at some point on your blog that you'd mentioned something about her.
DeleteAnd many thanks to you for expressing your feelings about the font. I so appreciate that. I have two other book reviews that I wrote recently in the same font. After seeing your comment, I went in and changed them to a font that is much easier on the eyes. Thanks again! xx
Thanks so much. I almost didn't say anything, not wanting to complain. :-) But the plain font is a lot more readable to me.
DeleteThanks for the review and recommendation.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
You are welcome, Jan. xx
