Hello Friends,
If you read here yesterday at the post From Resilience to Self-Control and then you happened to be back "in the neighborhood" and saw a different graphic at the heading, please know that the graphic was changed on purpose, but the body of the post remains the same.
I had This video brought to my attention and the content creator is a sweet Christian lady whom I admire. After watching that video, I decided to make some changes here at Joyful in His Presence. It deals with posting graphics of other people's creations. I refuse to use AI to create my own, so I wanted to let you know that from this point on I will only be using my own photography. My Monday and Friday posts especially will be looking a bit different.
The Peter Rabbit graphic that you see above, on my sidebar, and that I changed out on yesterday's post is one of 12 that I purchased from its Etsy creator. Before I purchased it, I messaged with her to make certain that it was okay for me to use any of the images on my blog and she replied almost immediately and said yes it was fine to use it on the blog. The price was quite minimal, but it isn't something that I will be doing a lot. In this post in particular, I want to give Natalia a very kind thank you for her beautiful artwork.
When I changed out the graphic from yesterday, I lost all of your comments, and I do sincerely apologize for that. But I did read each one and replied to each one.
I do hope that you will take the time to watch the video that I linked...just to be aware.
May you enjoy the beauty of this winter season...a time to slow down a bit and savor the everyday moments.

I scanned most of the transcript of the video. I can understand artist's frustrations with their work being shared since anyone can copy it from other posts. I use the Word Swag app for my graphics, so I am assuming they have permission for the photographs they have there. I know a lot of people use Canva. I need to get more familiar with that. They have some photos that you have to pay to use, but others that are free. I've bought some digital art on Etsy from Karla Dornacher and another lady named Julia Bettencourt who used to have a web site but doesn't any more.
ReplyDeleteI don't like the idea of using AI because I wonder if it is plagiaristic in itself. It uses what it has found from other sites. I know of authors who have found that their books have been fed into a particular AI, without their permission, and they are seeking legal means to stop it.
It's getting to be a complicated online world.
Barbara, thank you for taking the time to scan the transcript of the video. We have a friend who teaches at a prominent Christian college, and they actually have equipment that can run the papers through to check for AI. It's so sad. I will continue blogging as long as possible but if being in the online world gets much more complicated, I will definitely shut down my blog. I've already changed so much on my blog because of a commentor who was spiteful. People in general have become so mean and I don't really need that drama, yet on the other hand I want to be obedient to what the Lord has for me to do to further His kingdom because there are so many wonderful people out there that I've come to know personally as a result of blogging. Much to pray about.
DeleteMany thanks for the update... I haven't watched the video yet but thank you for the link.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
You are welcome, Jan. Once you watch the video, I think you will understand where I am coming from. Thank you for your faithfulness to visit this little space on the internet. xx
DeleteThank you Dianna..I watched the video and it was very interesting...as well as being very helpful. I usually create my own. I sometimes use Canva or I use sites where the photos are licensed under a free, non-exclusive, and irrevocable license. I'm just not sure that I trust AI enough to make my pictures.
ReplyDeleteI'm not very creative but I always enjoy your creations, Shug. My concept of AI is technology over humans. Eventually we will lose the human element.
DeleteOh Dear!! I think this means I can't post any sweet and encouraging graphics on my blog any more. That makes me sad but I'm glad to find out before I get into trouble.
ReplyDeleteIf you haven't already, GM, I would really recommend that you watch the video. It's quite informative and it certainly gave me much to think about and pray about. I'm understanding from other bloggers that there are programs online that one can use for free graphics, but at least for now, I am going to just use some of my own photographs.
DeleteThanks for the update, Dianna and for the link. I'll watch it later. Blessings!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update and the link. I'll watch the video later. Enjoy the weekend.
