From Resilience to Self-Control

It's a new year, which means a new One Word for 2026.

Somewhere around late November or early December of last year,
I began thinking and praying about an area of my life that
God would want to fine-tune this year.

The way I determine that word is by simply watching for what word or words turn up repeatedly after I had prayed and thought about the matter.

As it turned out, everywhere I kept seeing the phrase
"self-control" showing up...
it was there in my daily Bible reading, in books I was reading (both inspirational and novels), in conversations that I would have with others, in preaching I was hearing.

Hence, my One Word for 2026.

I've been collecting information and taking notes and am
looking forward to this year ahead, because, as my friend Resilience taught me last year, whatever the Lord wants to do in my life, it is always for His glory and my good.

  1. I had to delve a little deeper ...
    Self-control:-
Galatians 5:22-23 describes self-control as a fruit of the Spirit: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”

Such a cute image of Peter Rabbit.

    All the best Jan

    1. I love it that you delved a bit deeper into self-control. I don't know if you saw the previous graphic that I used in yesterday's post or not, but it was actually a tree whose heading was Fruit of the Spirit and then the branches were filled with the words self-control. When I was searching for a graphic, I came across a tree like that for all of the fruit of the Spirit. I have so many thoughts to share already, but it will be for other posts, and I am really looking forward to sharing some of it with my readers.
I'm glad that you like Peter Rabbit. He's going to go along with us this year of 2026 as we explore self-control. He had a problem with it, too, you know. :) I'm sure he's going to be quite helpful in helping us through this year. :)

  2. I think this is going to be a very profitable year! I look forward to what you are able to share as God teaches more about self-control in the months ahead. I'm going now to watch Sherry's video. We enjoy a lot of the same channels and blogs:) I have always been blessed by Sherry's YT channel. Thanks for sharing -

    1. Hello my friend. Thanks for stopping by. I've already been learning a lot about self-control this month of January, and as time goes on, I will be able to share some of it here in this space. I've not learned it perfectly, and just like with resilience, I know I won't 100% of the time, but I'm excited for the areas that I know will come up and how God will work in them.
Sherry is such a lovely Christian...such a sincere and loving person. I enjoy her channel so much. Thank you, Jennifer, for being so faithful to visit here in this space. xx

  3. Thanks for the explanation on why you changed the graphic, etc. I'm sure I wrote something yesterday about your word for this year. Self-Control has been in play here for me this month of January. I know God will continue to work on your heart and mind as you follow Him with resilience and pursue self-control! Blessings.

  4. I love that you don't back away from hard things, Dianna. Self-Control is one of the hardest calls on our life, yet you're diving in, just like you did with Resilience. You are such a good example for all of us, friend!

    1. Thank you for your kind and encouraging words, Lisa. Resilience from last year taught me so much and while I know that self-control will be just as much of a challenge, I know that God will see me through.
