From My Journal

 TODAY IS: 10 February 2025

AROUND ME:  We are preparing for more winter storms.  We are looking at 3-6 inches of snow from Tuesday through Wednesday.  But I still believe that spring is not far off.  We are already seeing so many signs of nature coming back to life to believe otherwise.

I AM PONDERING: the Providence of God.  Our pastor had arranged for someone to come and preach yesterday morning so that he could hear the man preach in person.  As it turned out, our pastor ended up getting the flu and God had already taken care of someone to fill the pulpit by the previous arrangements.

AMONG MY FAVORITE THINGS:  Wednesday evening we were under the threat of an ice-storm, so our pastor moved our Wednesday night prayer service to Thursday night.  His lesson was on prayer and then we went on to individuals praying as they wanted.  What a sweet, sweet time of prayer and fellowship as my brothers and sisters in Christ, shared the needs of their families and friends.

BOOKS I AM CURRENTLY ENJOYINGBy Grace Alone by Sinclair Ferguson

I AM THANKFUL FOR:  my hard-working husband who did a bit of a redo in our bathroom by replacing ceiling tiles, painting the ceiling, and taking up old floor tiles and installing new floor tiles.  He also assembled a new cabinet...without any grumbling.  I so appreciate him and all that he does to make our home comfortable.

NEVER TOO OLD TO LEARN: that resilience is a positive and not a negative.

FROM THE KITCHEN:

Almond Cherry Fudge

SOMETHING I REALLY ENJOY:

Yummy root vegetables

SCRIPTURE FOR THE WEEK

"So teach us to number our days,

Psalm 90:12

  1. We are expecting some cold weather here in east Tennessee but no snow, thankfully.
Your fudge looks so good. It looks so easy to make. I love the combination of cherry and almond.
I'm sure you're glad the bathroom do-over is done but how pretty it must look!
God always has things under control, doesn't He. I'm glad that He had someone to fill in for your pastor who was ill.
    Have a blessed week.

    1. I hope your temperatures don't get bitterly cold again.
The picture of the fudge is actually from the Taste of Home site where I linked the recipe to. It's really good. I made the full recipe because I have a couple of special ladies at church who have birthdays coming up and I wanted to gift them some fudge.
Yes, I am glad that the bathroom do-over is finished with the exception of a few items I have ordered. They are just functional decor pieces though and all of the hard stuff is done and the mess all cleaned up.

  2. Good early morning....Isn't it awesome that God already knows the happenings of our life? HE prepares our paths way ahead of us. What can I say about that fudge other than THIS LOOKS SOOOO GOOD!! It only I could eat a piece right off of this page. Y'all stay warm..I've been watching the weather and it looks like there is a lot more snow and ice sweeping across the country. 50 degrees here with rain later in the week. Happy Monday Dianna

    1. And Happy Monday to you as well, Shug! Yes, it's pretty amazing how God goes ahead of us and prepares the way for us. Wish you were closer, and you would definitely have some fudge! :) It was in the 30s here today...so not terribly cold. I was outside for a bit and as long as the wind wasn't blowing, it really felt kind of nice. The bonus was that we saw that beautiful sunshine! xx

  3. I'm sorry your pastor was ill and couldn't hear that message. But you're right about God's providence in setting that up.
I like the quote from Martyn Lloyd-Jones.
    Root vegetables are so good!
We are also supposed to get another storm from Wed-Thurs. It's becoming a joke in church that these storms keep coming on Wednesdays!

    1. Thank you for your kind words regarding our pastor, Mari. The message was recorded and up on our website, so he was able to hear the message, just not in person like he'd wanted. Perhaps the Lord will allow it another time. :)
I like that quote also. I've read a little of Martyn Lloyd-Jones, but I think I have probably listened to more of his messages than I have read what he's written.
      Yes, root vegetables are delicious!
Stay safe and warm with the new round of winter storms coming your way this week. It seems as if they happen here either on Wednesdays or Saturdays. That was the reason our pastor moved our Wednesday service to Thursday so we could fellowship around God's Word and pray together as a church family because the last few times, we've had snow on Wednesdays, and he's cancelled the services.

  4. Happy Monday to you! That fudge looks yummy...and with cherries just perfect for this week!:) That's wonderful that your pastor moved the mid-week service to Thursday. So much simply cancel. And you are right about the providence of God. So grateful that He goes before us and knows tomorrow (with its delights and its troubles) already!! Have a sweet week:) that fudge should really help!! Oh, and I think I need to wash the window valances. Thanks!

    1. Happy Monday to you, as well, Jennifer! Yes...I like the combination of chocolate and cherries around Valentine's Day. The remainder of the fudge will go to friends who are having birthdays, but I have a different recipe I want to make for my husband for Valentine's Day. It's his mom's recipe and is basically like a chocolate covered cherry, only the cherries are chopped up. Sadly, I didn't get to my window valances today. We are having a weather change coming our way and I was in a good deal of pain, so I will try to get that done tomorrow.

    1. I know where we live that snow in February is quite common...but I'm truly ready for spring. My daffodil stems are peeking through the ground. Thanks for the kind words regarding the fudge.

  6. Hello, my friend. Such a lovely post this Monday afternoon. Here in Maryland we are expecting snow too! Love your quote this week. And thanks for the recipe. Hugs and stay warm and cozy.

    1. Aww thank you, dear Billie Jo. Just think...more snow means more cozy times on the couch with a good book, or DVD and a cuppa. :) You are welcome for the recipe! xx

  7. Nice post, Dianna, I love your quote today. Never had or heard cherry almond fudge but it does look good.

    1. Thanks, Bill. Yes, that quote is a precious reminder to be obedient to pray for those who come to mind. The recipe for the fudge is so easy...just melt sweetened condensed milk and a bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips in the microwave for about 1 1/2 minutes, stir until thoroughly combined, add the chopped glazed cherries and the recipe uses almonds (but I used walnuts) and almond flavoring and pour it in the pan. It's one fudge that I know I can make, and it will always turn out well.

  8. We have about five days of rain in the forecast but, thank God, all on days that are supposed to be above freezing. The days below freezing are showing no rain on my weather app. I hope that prediction proves true! Our daffodil shoots are coming up, so I hope the cold weather doesn't harm them.

That's so neat the Lord provided for a substitute before the pastor knew he'd need one.

Good hard-working husbands are a treasure. I've felt bad for Jim that the job of painting has entailed so many little fixes and so much cleaning. But we're both so glad with the results. He's painting in our bedroom this week, which will mean a night or two in the "guest bedroom." I guess it's a good idea to try that out. :)

I like that Tozer quote. I used to try to write things down to pray for during my quiet time. Now I pray for needs as they come to my attention during the day (or night).

    1. We've been having a LOT of rain here, too, Barbara. There's been a lot of flooding, and I do feel badly for those folks affected but we are also thankful for the rain considering the drought we suffered this past summer. Our daffodil shoots are peeking through the soil as well. :) They will be fine.

I know what you mean about how the Lord provided a substitute before the pastor knew he was going to need one. Just another way that God is amazing!

Yes, they are, my friend. I totally agree. We had originally talked about doing a second house project this winter, but because we had so much bad weather in January and was unable to get out and get the supplies that he needed, and he will be starting garden seeds in doors starting next month, we've opted to wait until next January (should the Lord will it) to do the second project.

Martyn Lloyd-Jones is someone I enjoy listening to. This particular quote is one of my favorites of his.

  10. Pretty cool how God provided the Pastor when your Pastor was ill. Sorry your Pastor was ill though.
Handy husbands are blessings. Bet the bathroom looks great. The fudge looks delicious and I love root vegetables too, and they're good for you! :).
Love the praying quote. Sometimes a name will pop into my head for no reason - always take time to say a little prayer for that person.

    1. Thank you, Karen. I've heard from our pastor's wife today and he's still doing a lot of coughing and now she's doing the same. But we were thankful for the young man who God already had lined up for yesterday. He and his wife are a young couple with three young children who are so sweet.
I think we both have been blessed with handy husbands. :) I think the bathroom looks good...such a difference from what it was before. I made the fudge to share with some special ladies at church who have birthdays this month. Our pastor's wife was one of them and she emailed me to let me know how tickled she was with it. Carroll thinks it's pretty tasty. :) I do the same with praying for people when a name pops into my head for no reason.

  11. Realizing Monday sent me elsewhere from my computer so I'm a bit behind. Hooray for handy husbands who geterdone without grumbling. Such a blessing. You had some fun kitchen creations. That Almond Cherry fudge looks perfect for this Valentine week. Martin Lloyd Jones is a gift to the church. That was great how God provided for the pulpit in advance. Happy Tuesday to you.

    1. I know...I'm just so thankful for my husband. He just finished another small project without grumbling. I'd ordered a toilet paper holder that would take up less room in our small bathroom and it came today...unassembled of course. :) But it's in working order now. :) Yes, Ellen, Dr. Lloyd-Jones certainly is a gift to the church.

  12. Made the fudge for Valentines with dried craisins, and it was wonderful! We have almost a foot of snow in Oregon where we live and didn't want to get out for any reason today, so this hit the spot for a Valentine goodie. Thanks for sharing the recipe - it will for sure be a regular special treat!
