From My Journal

  TODAY IS: 14 April 2025

AROUND ME:   I am enjoying the fruits of my labor in our nice clean living room since I was able to wash down the walls and do up curtains and slipcovers this past week.

I AM PONDERING: how when my dependence is on God to provide the strength and stamina to accomplish things, rather than in my own strength that it always results in completed projects.

AMONG MY FAVORITE THINGS: being able to mark off monthly goals in my planner.

BOOKS I AM CURRENTLY ENJOYING: Since last week I have completed Silas Marner by George Elliot as well as Out of the Depths by Edgar Harrell.  There will be book reviews on both of those coming up over the next month.

I AM THANKFUL FOR the early spring beauty that we were able to enjoy with the flowers that were blooming, as well as the trees.  Even though the freeze last week made everything look pretty sad that was in bloom, we were still able to enjoy the beauty earlier.  It's just another reminder to not take tomorrow for granted.

FROM THE KITCHEN:  Not a lot going on in the kitchen that was picture worthy. :)  Some weeks are like that, I guess.  We enjoyed good and nutritious meals, but I didn't get pictures.  I did make some Iced Oatmeal cookies and Chocolate Chip Oatmeal cookies on Friday to take for a conference at our church Friday evening.

SOMETHING I REALLY ENJOY:  Having something special to look forward to.  Our little neighbor kiddos are going to be coming over after school on the 24th to decorate spring sugar cookies. :)  I'd wanted to do it before Easter, but they've had a good bit of sickness, so we decided to put it off a week.

SCRIPTURE FOR THE WEEK:

QUOTE FOR THE WEEK:

TO DO LIST FOR TODAY: Laundry, ironing, mending.

"So teach us to number our days,
that we may present to You a heart of wisdom."
Psalm 90:1

    1. Thanks, Melanie. It feels so good to have the spring cleaning behind me now. And, as it turns out, the blossoms on the pear trees are out in full bloom again. So, we are hoping that the freeze didn't completely kill things. xx

  4. Hello! What a good feeling that must be to have the spring cleaning done! Smart move to postpone the cookie decorating activity. What a wonderful idea that is! We are going to ice and decorate cookies at Peyton's this week. I love how my kids have taken charge of the holiday events we used to do together. Life is a circle. Have a cozy afternoon, my friend.

    1. It really is a good feeling to have that spring cleaning behind me now, Billie Jo. The "littles" next door have that lingering cough and we just thought waiting another week would be wise. Yes, life is a circle...and it's so rewarding! xx

    1. We did the same with the kiddos next door at Christmas, plus made Christmas gifts together that they could give to their family members. Hope you are doing well. xx

  6. I like the quote about homemaking. So true. It's laundry here today as usual but the sun is shining and I plan on being outside after my work is done.

    1. I still have a couple of "projects" on my list for this month that I want to accomplish before I start going outside to work on a regular basis. Otherwise, the inside things won't get done because I'd rather be out playing in the dirt. :)

  8. Getting housekeeping tasks accomplished and crossing items off to-do lists is so satisfying. "The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul" (Proverbs 13:19).

I'm looking forward to hearing what you think about Silas Marner.

I love that last quote about homemaking.

    1. Barbara, thank you for reminding me of that Scripture! So precious!

Silas Marner was a book that I appreciated much more this time around than I did in high school when it was required reading. :)

I liked that quote on homemaking as well.

  11. I spent yesterday giving our kitchen a deep clean and, yes, enjoying the fruit of that labor is such a nice feeling. Yours is the second mention I have seen about decorating cookies for spring/Easter. I usually only think about that at Christmas but it sounds like such fun. I think I just might do that:) Of course, chocolate chip oatmeal cookies also sound just as tasty!! Happy Tuesday to you friend!

    1. I did a lot of cookie decorating throughout the year when our kids were young and still at home. I've just always enjoyed it.

  12. You know...I have never washed down a wall in any house I've lived in. I've vacuumed them sometimes. Yikes they must have been dirty when we moved. Maybe not since it seems we tended to paint before selling. :) Ahh, fun to have the kiddos over for cookie time! Hope your Easter week is full of wonder and worship!

    1. I have reached an age where getting up and down on step ladders or stools so I use my microfiber pad on my mop and use that. I spray the wall with a Murphy's oil soap solution. It makes the job easier and I love the results.

I've been using Sinclair Ferguson's Lenten devotional and it's been so good. Looking forward to our Good Friday service at our church on Friday and then the glorious Resurrection Day on Sunday. xx
